EU migrant crisis: Why Germany still welcomes migrants

The German chancellor Angela Merkel has called on other EU states to show spirit and unity to resolve the migration crisis.

Over the past month, Germany has taken a lead in accepting refugees but has recently tightened border controls to cope with the influx.

Officials estimate 800,000 migrants will have arrived in Germany by the end of the year, although some expect the figure to be much higher.
