US Syria policy 'makes migrant crisis worse'

As thousands of migrants try to find a way to Europe, there is growing pressure on the US government to take in more refugees.

In a letter to Congress and President Barack Obama, former government officials have urged the US to welcome 100,000 Syrians onto American soil, and to allocate $2bn (£1.3bn) for resettlement. Currently the US is only planning to accept 10,000.

One of the signatories of that letter is Ryan Crocker, a former US Ambassador to Syria, who says the US government's lack of a coherent policy on Syria is contributing to the global migrant crisis.
