Portraits of the purge

President Erdogan's vow to cleanse state bodies of the "virus" he claims caused the revolt in July, has seen more than 70,000 people arrested and at least 100,000 suspended or sacked.

It is part of an enormous purge of those suspected of backing the coup or the alleged mastermind, an exiled cleric. But under the state of emergency, other people are also being rounded up, charged with "terrorism propaganda".
