Mexico drugs cartel leader Miguel Angel Trevino captured

The head of Mexico's brutal Zetas drug cartel has been captured, Mexican government spokesman Eduardo Sanchez Hernandez has confirmed.

Miguel Angel Trevino Morales, known as "Zeta-40", was captured outside Nuevo Laredo, near the US border at dawn on Monday.

He took control of the Zetas following the death of group founder Heriberto Lazcano in October 2012.
