100 Women: Ingrid Betancourt - God, death and the jungle

Ingrid Betancourt was running for president of Colombia when she was kidnapped by guerrillas in 2002. She was held in the jungle for more than six years.

She now studies theology at Oxford University - determined to understand more about her her own humanity and relationship with God.

Her captivity separated her from her children and imposed numerous hardships, but now she thanks God for it.

Speaking to the BBC for its 100 Women series, she says she now understands that acceptance of death is essential to true freedom.
