Obama: 'Candid' conversation with Castro

For the first time in more than half a century, the leaders of the United States and Cuba have met for formal talks.

Barack Obama and Raul Castro spoke for around an hour on the fringes of a summit in Panama.

The US broke off diplomatic relations with Cuba in 1959 after a US-backed regime was toppled by a communist revolution led by Raul's brother Fidel Castro.

Speaking after the meeting, Mr Obama said that conversation had been frank.
