Israeli president: 'Peace is possible'
Israel's President Shimon Peres has said peace with the Palestinians is possible through direct talks.
Speaking to the BBC's Middle East Correspondent, Rupert Wingfield-Hayes, he said that a two-state solution was the best option.
He was speaking after US President Barack Obama said he would veto a bid for full UN membership for the Palestinians.
The Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to hand in a letter asking for full UN membership to Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York on Friday.
