Women challenge Jordan nationality law

A group of Jordanian women are demanding nationality for their children born to foreign fathers, but refused citizenship.

One Jordanian academic believes some 50,000 children born to non-Jordanian fathers are living in the Kingdom without nationality or a passport.

One section of the law stipulates only that children of Jordanian men have the right to nationality, wherever they are born. But the women say another section could apply to both genders, and the constitution outlaws discrimination anyway.
