Jordan's king calls on Bashar to step down

Jordan's King Abdullah has called for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down in the interests of his country.

His comments, in an exclusive BBC interview, follow a defiant speech by the Syrian foreign minister after the announcement of Syria's suspension from the Arab League because of its violent suppression of anti-government protests.

The UN estimates that over 3,500 people have been killed in the uprising which began in march.
