World leaders call for ceasefire in Syria

After urgent negotiations with the Syrian government by the Red Cross and Red Crescent, a handful of ambulances have been allowed into the wreckage of the city of Homs to evacuate 20 women and children and 7 wounded.

The two foreign journalists who have been seriously injured there are refusing to leave until there is a ceasefire.

World leaders have gathered to condemn the violence in Syria and have called for humanitarian aid to be allowed into the areas devastated by shelling and gunfire.

However, divisions remain on how to persuade or force President Bashar Al Assad to end the bloodshed.
