Syria protests: One year on, what has changed?
A year since the first protests began in Syria, more than 8,000 people are estimated to have died, and more than 200,000 have become refugees.
Human rights groups across the world are marking the first anniversary by calling for Russia and China to support UN action against President Assad's regime.
It comes as the UN and Arab League envoy, Kofi Annan, prepares to report back to the Security Council on Friday after his visit to Syria at the weekend.
