Syrians voicing their protest through 'engaged art'

It started with a few simple words: The people want the regime to fall. Those words were written on a wall in Deraa in southern Syria by a group of teenagers, a bold statement of protest in a country that never saw dissent.

Those young boys were arrested, and a protest movement was launched in that city two years ago today.

Like those teenagers in Deraa, people across Syria found their voice and stood up not just on the streets, but through art: in paintings, literature and comic books.

The BBC's Lucy Hockings was joined by author, Robin Yassin-Kassab and by Malu Halasa who is curating an upcoming exhibit on the Syrian conflict in Copenhagen.
