Russia discusses Syria crisis with UN's Ban Ki-moon

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has discussed the Syria crisis with Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Mr Ban said he was "deeply concerned about the ongoing violence" but both parties had agreed that a "negotiated political solution is the only way to end the crisis".

He added that a proposed international conference on Syria should be held as soon as possible but no date had yet been agreed.
