Why Mid-East peace talks now?

The US has said peace talks between the Israelis and Palestinians will resume in Washington on Monday, after almost three years.

US Secretary of State John Kerry has been on an intensive push to get the two sides back around the table - but after so many failed attempts what has prompted the renewed drive for peace?
