Syria crisis: Media 'not reporting' Obama decision

US President Barack Obama has formally asked Congress to authorise military action against Syria over alleged chemical weapons attacks.

The BBC's Jeremy Bowen, one of the few international journalists in Damascus, said the official media is not reporting the decision and pushing an atmosphere of war.

Washington claims it has evidence that 1,429 people were killed in chemical attacks by the Syrian army on 21 August.

Mr Obama said any operation would be limited, ruling out a ground invasion. Congress is to reconvene on 9 September.
