Egypt torture claims: 'Officers were kicking and hitting me'

Electrocutions, brutal beatings, and sexual abuse are taking place in detention in Egypt, according to testimonies gathered by the BBC.

The accounts cannot be independently verified but human rights groups have told the BBC that there is widespread torture and brutality.

The military-backed government denies the claims.

Prominent liberal activist Khaled El Sayed was arrested on the third anniversary of the 25 January revolution and held for six weeks.

He describes how, while in custody at Abu Zaabal prison, he was subjected to a long and brutal beating.
