Pope Francis makes the first ever papal visit to Iraq
The Pope’s trip to Iraq is the first ever papal visit of the country, and is the first international trip he has made since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
As Pope Francis began the four-day trip, he visited the presidential palace, as well as Baghdad’s Syriac Catholic church of Our Lady of Salvation. It was the scene of a 2010 attack by jihadists, which left 52 people dead.
