IMF's Strauss-Kahn denied bail after court appearance

A court in New York has remanded IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn in custody on charges of sexual assault. The judge said Mr Strauss-Kahn, 62, was a flight risk.

He was arrested on Saturday after boarding a Paris-bound plane, and accused of trying to rape a hotel maid earlier in the day.

Speaking in court, the assistant District Attorney John A. McConnell said Mr Strauss-Kahn would have the means to flee and had no ties to the US.

Mr Strauss-Kahn's defence attorney Benjamin Brafman said his client denied any wrongdoing.
