Michael Steele: 'Romney must boost likeability rating'

Mitt Romney is set to deliver a prime-time speech to the Republican National Convention and formally accept his selection as the party's presidential candidate.

Ahead of the address, Michael Steele, former chairman of the Republican National Committee, has said Mr Romney must make a personal connection to voters if he is to succeed to the presidency.

"You know what it boils down to? One word: likeability," Mr Steele said in an interview with the BBC's Katty Kay. "People have got to see themselves in his vision of the country."
