UN: Barack Obama calls on leaders to condemn violence
US President Barack Obama has called on leaders around the world to condemn acts of violence and extremism.
Speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York, Mr Obama said that it was "time to marginalise" those who used "hatred of America, or the West, or Israel as a central principle of politics". He also paid tribute to the US ambassador to Libya, who was murdered in Benghazi.
The summit is expected to be dominated by events in the Middle East, including the crisis in Syria and protests across the Muslim world in response to the US-made video mocking the Prophet Muhammad.
