Grief and defiance as Bostonians run once again

The two explosions near the finish line of the Boston marathon killed three people and injured 176 others on Monday.

As the investigation into the attack continues the city is trying to come to terms with how Patriots' Day, a state holiday commemorating the American War of Independence, turned into such a tragedy.

With more than 23,000 people taking part, the Boston Marathon is one of the biggest days on the sporting calendar in the US, and a symbol of pride for Bostonians.

The BBC's Franz Strasser spoke to runners out for a jog on Tuesday morning beside the Charles River.
