State of the Union: Obama promises minimum wage boost

US President Barack Obama has pledged to raise the minimum wage for federally-funded workers to $10.10 (£6) in his annual State of the Union address.

Mr Obama announced that he would be issuing an Executive Order in the coming weeks but urged business leaders not to wait for Congress to take action.

The president also called on business, Congress and the White House to come together to guarantee equal pay for women, likening some workplace policies to "a Mad Men episode".
