Credit Suisse helped 'tax payers evade tax'
The Swiss banking giant Credit Suisse has pleaded guilty to helping some US clients avoid paying taxes to the US government and agreed to pay a $2.6bn (£1.5bn) fine.
US attorney general Eric Holder said it was the largest bank to plead guilty in "20 years".
He told a news conference: "Credit Suisse and its subsidiaries engaged in a wide ranging conspiracy to help US tax payers evade taxes."
The bank said in a statement it deeply regretted the past misconduct.
