US special forces to engage IS militants in Syria

The US Defence Secretary, Ash Carter, has announced that American special forces in Iraq will be used to carry out operations against Islamic State in Syria.

Mr Carter told a Congressional committee in Washington that the soldiers would be able to carry out raids, free hostages and capture so called Islamic State leaders.
