Barack Obama: 'Guantanamo key magnet for jihadi recruitment'

US President Obama has said it is his expectation to have reduced the prison population at Guantanamo Bay to below 100 by early next year.

Speaking at his year-end address he said: "Guantanamo continues to be one of the key magnets for jihadi recruitment".

He added he would present a plan to Congress to close it, keeping back the threat of using his executive powers if Congress rejects it.
