Diplomat: Iran had '100 billion reasons' to return sailors

The release of 10 American service-members who had entered Iranian waters has averted a potential diplomatic crisis, just days before the nuclear deal signed by Tehran and world powers is set to be implemented.

But former US diplomat Dennis Ross says the situation may have been quite different if the event had occurred just a few weeks later.

The former special assistant to President Barack Obama, who is now at the Washington Institute for Near Policy, tells the BBC's Katty Kay that "once they've had this sanctions relief, once they've had access to the frozen accounts, then we'll see".

Mr Ross was referring to the $100bn in funds that Iran will receive as part of the nuclear deal Tehran struck with world powers last July.
