Michael Eric Dyson: Obama faces a 'balancing act' in Dallas

Michael Eric Dyson, a professor at Georgetown University and author of The Black Presidency, looks ahead to President Barack Obama's trip to Dallas after the shooting deaths of five police officers there.

The Dallas gunman Micah Johnson told authorities before he was killed that he targeted white people and police officers. He said he was angry after black men were killed by police that week in Louisiana and Minnesota.

Mr Dyson tells the BBC's Katty Kay that Mr Obama must pay tribute to the heroism of the fallen officers while acknowledging the racial disparities in policing across the country.
