US Congressman accuses China of 'provocative threats'

China has condemned a meeting between Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen and the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy in California, vowing a resolute response.

In an interview with the BBC, US congressman Seth Moulton called China's criticism of the meeting 'absurd'.

China considers Taiwan part of its own territory and tries to discourage foreign officials from meeting Taiwanese politicians.
