Europe's oldest book, the St Cuthbert Gospel.

The British Library has announced a £9m campaign to save the St Cuthbert Gospel - the earliest surviving intact European book - for the nation.

The book, a copy of the Gospel of St John, was produced in northern England in the late 7th Century, buried with St Cuthbert and rediscovered in 1104.
