Sir Harrison Birtwistle wins fourth Composer Award

Sir Harrison Birtwistle has won his fourth British Composer Award at a ceremony in London.
The 78-year-old was awarded the orchestral prize for his Concerto for Violin and Orchestra.
Other winners included Christian Mason for best instrumental solo or duo, Colin Matthews for best vocal and Gabriel Jackson for choral.
The awards celebrate the best of British contemporary classical and jazz music.
Ray Lee, Francis Grier, Jocelyn Pook and Christine Tobin also won in the sonic art, liturgical, stage works and contemporary jazz composition categories respectively.
"This has been a great year for British composers," Sarah Rodgers, chairman of the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (Basca) said.
"The awards have presented an authentic reflection of the new and the established, across a spectrum of language and invention which affirms the high reputation of contemporary classical composition in the UK."
Coverage of the awards, which were held at Goldsmiths' Hall, will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on 9 December.
