  3. Why were they in the cave?published at 06:08 British Summer Time 8 July 2018

The boys are no stranger to the Tham Luang cave, having been there before on previous occasion.

It had been a while since they last visited the cave, but they were said to have gone in to celebrate the birthday of one of the boys.

The boy's family had waited that night for him to come home but to no avail. His birthday cake is still intact - they're saving it for when he returns.

  11. Race 'against water'published at 05:32 British Summer Time 8 July 2018

Heavy rains were unleashed in Mae Sai - the district in which the cave is located - last night. It was the moment the whole country had been dreading - with the rains threatening to bring water levels in the cave up to a point where the boys might have been in danger.

It might also have contributed to the decision to bring them out today as heavy rains are expected again later on this week.

The governor of Chiang Rai had previously called the mission a "race against water".

It's still unclear how exactly the boys are getting out of the cave.

One of the main problems rescuers face is that some of the boys cannot swim.

It seems like one possibility being explored is for the group to simply walk out, with the governor of Chiang Rai saying it was a possibility for them to "walk through" parts of the cave.

Here are some other ways they might get out.
