Sava and Ana say they needed a nudge to get married after 35 years together

When Ana Pavlovic and her partner of 35 years Sava Mihajlov received the email from Old Marylebone Town Hall, they knew this was the nudge they needed to tie the knot.

After years of being asked by friends and family when they would be getting married - today's the day!

Ana, 64, says she always knew they were going to be together but it wasn't until the "perfect nudge" came along that they decided to walk down the aisle.

The news of their wedding was a "shock to many. There was no warning or anything. We never got engaged or did the routine.”

The two studied at the school of architecture in Belgrade and left what was Yugoslavia in 1990. They settled in Westminster and said both their children have been registered at the Old Marylebone Town Hall.

Sava and Ana, from Westminster, will be getting married at 17:00 - so hit Watch live at the top of the page to enjoy the moment with them.

  3. The couples are bringing the energy, says Marylebone registrarpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 1 October

Registrar Tommy Hanover speaking to BBC presenters Nicky and Charlotte

We've put some of your questions to Tommy Hanover, the registrar at Old Marylebone Town Hall.

    How has the day been?

The day has been a dream. Despite the early start, we're still rocking it because the couples are bringing the energy.

How much does an average town hall wedding cost?

At Old Marylebone Town Hall, a statutory wedding is around £50 and the most expensive £1,400. Most town halls across the country are of a similar price.

    Can anyone be a witness?

Witnesses have to be of a reasonable age - 16 at Old Marylebone - and must be able to understand English, as they are witnessing a verbal contract.

Do you always say the same thing as a registrar?

A number of scripts are offered to couples which can be customised - but certain legal words can't be changed.

    Can people wear anything?

Anything - but we wouldn't allow nothing. I've married people in pyjamas before.

    What's your wedding highlight?

I conducted the first same-sex marriage in the UK, which was a real highlight. When I was younger, the idea that this institution was open to me was beyond my realm of understanding.

What's the craziest pet you've had take part in the wedding?

Not here, but I've heard of an owl attending to present the rings. It didn't work very well.

  4. Marvin, a very good boy who's loving the attentionpublished at 16:04 British Summer Time 1 October

We can now bring you images of Marvin, a very special guest at the wedding of his owners Dan and Daisy.

The couple met on their first day of university in 2016, and were excited by Old Marylebone Town Hall's offer for up to two pets to attend the day's festivities.

Marvin, Daisy and Dan "come as a package deal", the couple tells the BBC - and Marvin has been soaking in the attention from reporters and registrars alike.

Something we're hearing a lot today is how the swift nature of today's weddings - which last 15-20 minutes each- is helping ease any pre-wedding nerves.

"Everyone here made it less scary," bride Daniela says. Her new husband Ean works at Westminster City Council, and when he heard about the town hall's plans the couple made the decision to get hitched.

"We walked straight in," he says. "In and out, bish bash bosh."

  12. Behind the scenes of organising 100 weddings in a daypublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 1 October

For those working behind the scenes at Old Marylebone Town Hall today, the logistics of organising 100 weddings and ceremonies in one day has been "a year in the making".

Speaking to the BBC, Joe - an organiser at the venue - says that the day so far has been running "very smoothly".

As many as seven couples are tying the knot at a time at the famous wedding venue and each ceremony lasts for 20 to 30 minutes, he adds.

Pictures also show a clean-up operation in place between ceremonies, and with confetti thrown over each of the 100 couples that's no easy task.

"We make sure that people have their moment, that it's special", he says.

Forty-three registrars - nearly the full force employed at Old Marylebone Town Hall - are on hand to process each of the weddings.

Dating apps get a lot of bad press, but many of the couples I’ve spoken to today met on them.

Shona and Kenny, one of the first of the 100 brides and grooms to be married, met on an app six years ago.

BBC reporter Thomas Mackintosh and his wife Paige met virtually between the second and third Covid lockdowns, while Conor and Georgia, whose wedding was live streamed on the BBC, met online two years ago.

True love can blossom on Tinder after all!

In less than 10 minutes, Andy Lambert and Mel Fawcus will be saying "I do".

When Andy saw the offer to get married at Old Marylebone Town Hall, he acted on instinct and registered online.

An unknown number came through and before he knew it the wedding was booked - but he still had to tell Mel, who was none the wiser.

He and Mel Fawcus met in 1988 at an Easter Bonnet party and have been dating ever since.

Andy works as a train driver for Chiltern Railways in and out of London Marylebone station – just round the corner from today’s venue.

“It's going to be nice to be surrounded by so many other people and couples who are also getting married. Everyone wants to be there. There was no hoopla with this, it is a case of getting married and then getting out.”
