    In a statement, the operator said: “We are proactively contacting customers who have already booked with us during the red weather warning time period and locations affected.

    “The services affected are primarily those serving Wales and the South West of England, but some services which connect with those areas are also cancelled.”

    Wiltshire Police have said they are currently dealing with multiple trees down or in danger of falling down on most routes across the county, including trees that have fallen across power lines.

    A number of roads are closed, including:

    • The A429 in Malmesbury
    • A360 Potterne to Devizes
    • B4069 Chippenham to Draycott Cerne.

    According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, Northgate Street in Devizes has been closed in both directions due to an unsafe building from the A361 New Park Street to Station Road.

    Huge trees have fallen onto walls, driveways and roads in a residential area in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset.

    Wiltshire Police have said the Corsham to Gastard road (B3353) is blocked at the traffic lights in Shaw due to a large tree across the road.

    They are urging motorists to avoid the area.

    Police earlier closed the junction onto The Haymarket westbound from St James Barton Roundabout - in Bristol - due to a large fallen tree.

    The road is behind the Primark superstore and is a key central station for bus services in the city.

    All lanes of the M5 northbound from J23 for Bridgwater and J22 for Burnham-on-sea have now reopened, according to National Highways.

    One lane was closed earlier due to debris in the road.

    The seafront in Watchet, Somerset. The sea can be seen and it is very bleak and grey. There are no people around.

    Watchet is right in the middle of the red alert area - and is bearing the brunt of Darragh.

    The noise is apocalyptic - the gusts are howling through this harbour town.

    Trees are down, boats in the harbour are essentially on their side, and as the tide comes in - sea water is smashing over two sea walls.

    There are Christmas trees strewn across the centre of town as well as people’s bins covering the footpaths and roads.

    There are also a brave few out and about - some walking their dogs and others stood on the harbour getting dramatic shots of the sea breaking over the defences.

  12. Bristol Rovers v Bolton Wanderers postponedpublished at 08:42 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December

    The Bristol Rovers home fixture against Bolton Wanderers has been postponed due to the worsening conditions caused by Storm Darragh.

    Rovers said in a statement the high winds have brought an increased, significant threat to the safety of all due to attend the Memorial Stadium.

    A new date for the rearranged fixture will be confirmed in due course.

    Tickets for the rearranged match will be valid and any supporter wishing to get a refund can do so by contacting the ticket office, the club added.

    The A367 Fosseway is closed in both directions due to a fallen tree.

    The closure is in place from the B3356 to the B3355.

    Traffic monitoring website Inrix said there is heavy traffic as a result.

    Flights are being delayed, diverted and cancelled in and out of Bristol Airport.

    A spokesperson said: "The Met Office has issued a red weather warning for the Bristol channel.

    "High winds are expected and will continue through the weekend.

    "Disruption is expected, passengers are advised to check for any flight updates through the airline’s mobile app or website."

    Stagecoach Bristol has cancelled its coach services until further notice, it has confirmed to the BBC.

    The bus company said it will keep this under review throughout the day.

    Blue departures board at Bristol Temple Meads

    Earlier this morning, trains from Bristol Temple Meads had been running with minimal delays. Passengers arriving at the station said they had more of an issue getting here from nearby areas, since local buses are cancelled and some roads are blocked.

    But in the past half hour, the rail situation is worsening at Bristol Temple Meads.

    Services to London, Edinburgh, Portsmouth and Cardiff are all showing delayed or cancelled.

    GWR - which operates services through south-west England - has urged passengers to rearrange their travel plans for the weekend.

    The operator says speed restrictions will be imposed on the services that are running.

    The A36 is closed in both directions from the A366 Norton St Phillip to Branch Road.

    While, Long Cross Bottom is closed near Stoke St Michael due to a fallen tree and power cables.

    Somerset Council are reminding people the advice is "essential travel only".

    We're seeing reports of fallen trees all around the region, with some roads closed as a result.

    People all over the West are waking up to strong winds, rain and plenty of disruption due to Storm Darragh. A rare red weather warning is in place for parts of the region and people are urged to stay home unless absolutely necessary.

    • Public transport is disrupted - many FirstBus and Stagecoach services are cancelled, there are closures on the railway affecting some GWR trains and CrossCountry services, and flights in and out of Bristol Airport are delayed, diverted or cancelled
    • Both Severn Bridges are closed to all traffic
    • Many roads in the region are blocked due to fallen trees. The A4 in Wiltshire, Kingsweston Road in Bristol and the A38 between Bridgwater and Minehead are among those affected
    • The National Grid is reporting outages across Somerset and Wiltshire - more than 6,000 people are impacted
