While we wait for A-list guests to arrive, the BBC's Lilah Parsons has been speaking to one side of this year's hosting duo, Kojey Radical.

The British musician, who also hosted last year's event, says: "It was surreal the first time. It's just double surreal this time so I'm just grateful for the opportunity."

Kojey started out as a fashion illustration student at the London College of Fashion, and he tells the BBC he sees himself in some of the younger hopefuls at tonight's ceremony.

"As much as we come and we enjoy the champagne and the glitz and glamour and the cameras, it's really about what happens behind the scenes and what that does for the future of the fashion scene," he says, praising charity work done by organisations involved.

The Fashion Awards - which until 2016 was called the British Fashion Awards - have been running since 1989.

The first few ceremonies were at Royal Albert Hall, but others have taken place at the Natural History Museum, the Victoria and Albert museum, and other iconic locations across London.

In 2016 it returned to its original home, and has stayed there ever since.

The 1989 edition was attended by Princess Diana, who wore an all-white look that has been dubbed the “Elvis dress”.

Since then, the awards have hosted some of the world’s most famous faces, both those from the world of fashion and elsewhere.

Some of the best and most well-known designers have been honoured over the years - including Dame Vivienne Westwood, Karl Lagerfeld and Alexander McQueen.

I’ve just arrived at the Royal Albert Hall, lit up in a red glow and surrounded by a red carpet.

A whole crew of hoovers have given the carpet a quick once over, before the first celebrities arrive.

Nervous (but glam) stewards are walking up and down, while photographers are vying for the best spot. No famous faces just yet, but stay tuned…

The Fashion Awards’ first home was at the Royal Albert Hall, where the ceremony will be taking place later this evening.

But Royal Albert Hall isn’t the only central London location to host one of the biggest nights in fashion.

In the 1990s and early 2000s, the event was held at the Natural History Museum four times. The capital’s Victoria & Albert Museum also hosted the event on three occasions.

The awards returned to the Royal Albert Hall in 2016 and has been held there since.

It is one of the city’s best-known venues, and since opening over 150 years ago it has played host to the Suffragettes, Albert Einstein, Muhammed Ali, Ella Fitzgerald, The Beatles and Adele, among other high-profile names.
