    Martin Heath
Reporting from the West Northamptonshire count

There is an obvious divide at the count - Reform candidates and supporters can hardly contain their delight about the result that seems to be unfolding here.

They are gathering around the stage in eager anticipation for each result and cheering wildly when they chalk up another win.

Their candidates for Upton ward are not actually at the count, but that hasn't dampened the celebrations.

The only question for the people representing the traditional major parties is exactly how big the scale of the losses could be.

Jonathan Harris, deputy leader of the Lib Dems in West Northants, says people are angry with the Conservatives and Labour.

"Clearly, people are looking for something different and feel frustration and anger," he tells us.

Harris claims many people on the doorstep get mixed up over what a local council's powers are.

"I think we've been very much jaded with the national picture and we spent a lot of our time talking to people about 'this is a local election on local issues'," he continues.

"Some of the things you are hearing from national parties are not things that a local council can influence."

Mark Arnull, who is standing for Reform UK in West Northants, believes "there is a possibility" his party could seize control of the council.

He claims this would represent a "seismic change" in the region's political landscape.

"Some in our party might call it a political earthquake," says Arnull, who is also chairman of Reform UK in North Northampton.

He said if the party got the majority, it "would be a landslide".

Independent candidate Ian McCord has just revealed the cheeky request he was making to voters on their doorsteps.

Deanshanger ward, which he is fighting for in West Northants, is electing two councillors - so he told people to give their first vote to their party of choice... And their second to him!

He knows the game, having once led the now-defunct South Northamptonshire Council.

If you don't ask, you don't get, and all that.
