    Voters across the country took to the polls to elect councillors on Thursday, taking place in 23 councils across England.

    Polls opened at 07:00 BST before closing at 22:00 last night.

    Councillors "provide a bridge between the community and the council", according to the Local Government Association.

    Here in Nottinghamshire, there are 66 elected councillors who represent 56 electoral divisions on the county council.

    A former Conservative leader of the county council has said the strong support for Reform has shown Nottinghamshire leans to the right.

    Kay Cutts, who led the authority from 2017 to 2021, feels "there is no appetite at all for the Labour party, no appetite for the Liberal Democrats and no appetite for Greens".

    She said national politics had influenced the outcome but Reform "would do very well to listen to their Conservative colleagues who have a massive amount of experience" as they take control.

    She added: "All of the things that people actually want, make sure they happen. That's what it's really important about, it's providing services for people."
