    This photo perhaps says it all.

    There were just 2,585 votes between victorious Steffan Aquarone for the Lib Dems and Duncan Baker, who had hoped to retain North Norfolk for the Conservatives.

    The seat had previously been held by the Lib Dems for 18 years.

    In his acceptance speech, Mr Aquarone said while he may not agree with Mr Baker on many things, he had worked "extremely hard and been responsive and present" since he was elected in 2019.

    Labour's Alice MacDonald has thrashed the Conservatives in a seat they had held since 2009, gaining a majority of 10,850.

    She polled 20,794 votes, with the Tories trailing in second place with 9,944.

    In her acceptance speech, Ms MacDonald said Norwich North had voted for change.

    "It won't be easy but I will get stuck in to fix our public services and tackle the biggest challenges we face - the climate crisis and the cost of living crisis," she added.

    She acknowledged outgoing Conservative MP Chloe Smith, who served the constituency for 15 years, and paid tribute to Dr Ian Gibson, the last Labour MP for the seat. Dr Gibson died in 2021.

    Adrian Ramsay, Green Party co-leader and candidate for Waveney Valley, has just arrived at Debenham Leisure Centre.

    He said: “It has been a fantastic campaign and we’ve had a great response on the doorstep but I am not being complacent about anything.

    “We await the result with interest. I feel hopeful people are looking for a change here in East Anglia and Green Party support is clearly on the rise.

    “It wouldn’t be right to speculate. But I do think there is a strong sign more people are coming behind the Green Party. It could be very close and every vote counts.”

  7. Rupert Lowe: 'Put British people first'published at 03:55 British Summer Time 5 July

    In his acceptance speech, Great Yarmouth's new MP, Reform UK's Rupert Lowe, said a "flood of change was coming over Britain's political system".

    His victory came hot on the heels of that of party leader Nigel Farage's win in Clacton.

    "I'm intent on ensuring we end up with more common sense in government; that we put the British people first," said Mr Lowe.

    "I'm committed to bring about change in Westminster and thereby bring about change in Great Yarmouth."

    He won with a slim majority of 1,425 over Labour, with the Tories third.

    The Conservatives' Sir Brandon Lewis, who stepped down at this election, had held the seat since 2010.

    He says the snack table has been "demolished" compared to how it was looking earlier in the night.

  10. 'Significant levels' of snacks at Great Yarmouth countpublished at 03:30 British Summer Time 5 July

    It's that time of night where a sugar rush can make all the difference.

    BBC Radio Norfolk's Edd Smith, who's at the count in Great Yarmouth, reports that those counting the ballots are well-stocked with supplies.

    He says: "Significant levels of snacks here in Great Yarmouth’s Town Hall to keep the counters going."

  11. Freeman's majority greatly reducedpublished at 03:29 British Summer Time 5 July

    Re-elected Mid Norfolk Conservative MP George Freeman has seen his majority shrink from 22,594 in 2019, to just 3,054.

    It was a seat that he feared he could lose.

    In his acceptance speech, he thanked constituents for "putting their trust in me" and outlined what he would do "in opposition".

    "I make the pledge I have made every time; I am here to represent everyone now, particularly those who do not have a voice," he said.

    Both Conservative Duncan Baker, who won the North Norfolk seat in 2019, and his Liberal Democrat rival Steffan Aquarone have arrived at the election count.

    A serious-looking Mr Baker arrived first and has been speaking with supporters.

    We're being told to expect a result within the next hour.

    Ballot papers are being counted in South West Norfolk, the seat held by former prime minister Liz Truss since 2010. She had a majority of 26,195 in 2019.

    We are expecting a result there between 05:00 and 06:00 BST.

    Labour's Clive Lewis is in a sober mood, despite his re-election - and with the prospect of being part of a governing party for the first time.

    "The Labour government have to make a real difference to people's lives," he tells BBC Radio Norfolk.

    "We have to end the shame of food banks, of children going hungry in schools, the fact we live in a dental desert, hospital waiting lists, low pay.

    "We have to sort this, because people are losing faith in democracy.

    "I want to be in Norwich's voice in Parliament, and I want to make sure Labour delivers."

    Conservative James Wild, who was elected to the safe North West Norfolk seat in 2019, has arrived for the count at LynnSport in King's Lynn.

    Meanwhile, the Reform UK candidate Phil Walton is feeling buoyant.

    “People want a change and the polls tonight are showing that," he said.

    “We’re certainly going to get the votes in,” he added.

    In his acceptance speech, Labour's Clive Lewis said he was "willing to share power so that good may be done for the many, not the few" in Norwich South.

    He said he would represent those who didn't vote for him as well as those who did.

    "Norwich, let's get to it," he added.

  19. Clive Lewis polls fewer votes than in 2019 - but increases majoritypublished at 02:29 British Summer Time 5 July

    Labour's Clive Lewis polled 21,484 votes to retain the safe Norwich South seat.

    In his acceptance speech he acknowledged that while he won, not everyone in the constituency voted for him.

    He polled 6,000 votes fewer than in 2019, but his majority increased slightly to 13,239.

    The Greens came second, polling 8,500 votes compared to 2,500 in 2019.

    The party were eyeing this key seat with its large student population.

    The Conservatives have haemorrhaged votes, going from 15,000 in 2019 to just 5,800.
