  3. Bundles recount in Forestpublished at 05:21 British Summer Time 5 July

    Edward Rowe
    Political reporter, BBC Gloucestershire

Conservative and Labour activists are huddled around the vote packs recounting the bundles of votes in the Forest of Dean.

It means they’re not going to be recording a result yet, it’s not a full recount it’s just to double check that all the results are right.

Stay tuned people, it’s really down to the wire.

  4. 'Never meant to be anything other than Conservative'published at 05:07 British Summer Time 5 July

    Jules Hyam
    BBC News, West of England

I've just been speaking with one Liberal Democrat here at the North Cotswolds count.

They told me that this was the seat that was meant to "never be anything other than Conservative".

In its various guises the area has been represented by Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown since 1992.

It looks like much less of a sure thing right now, with perhaps as few as 1,000 votes between the Conservatives and the Lib Dems.

If it's fewer than 1,000 then it could go to a re-count...

I'll let you know if you need to stick the kettle on.

  6. North Cotswolds is looking closepublished at 04:52 British Summer Time 5 July

    Jules Hyam
    BBC News, West of England

So...North Cotswolds was predicted to be a Conservative hold for Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown.

It was due to declare 45 minutes ago.

The stacks of ballot papers are looking rather similar in height - between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats.

Neither party is prepared to say how they think it's gone.

This could be closer than we'd thought...

  8. Sunrise loomspublished at 04:35 British Summer Time 5 July

At this point I think we’ll be expecting the South Cotswolds result first here at Cirencester Leisure Centre.

Verification of votes for the North Cotswolds constituency came only a short time after that of the South Cotswolds seat and there are 2,000 fewer votes to count.

It could be one result straight after another here – a ‘blink and you miss it’ after six hours… and counting!

But the signs at the moment are that the South Cotswolds is likely to be first past the post.

What will come first – sunrise over the Cotswolds or a result?

The last box of verified papers has been taken to the counting tables. It looks too close to call at the moment.

  17. Chalk gracious in defeatpublished at 03:53 British Summer Time 5 July

    Steve Knibbs

Jubilant scenes here in Cheltenham from the Lib Dems who have waited a long time to get their own MP.

Max Wilkinson was emotional as I spoke to him - this is his second time of trying.

He promised to do his best for the town he loves. Alex Chalk was gracious in defeat.

He knew his time was up but said he wants his party to rebuild, and at the moment he's happy for Rishi Sunak to stay on.

There’s a sense that proceedings might be close to wrapping up here in Gloucester.

The ballot papers are in piles and counters are chatting among themselves.

Of all the parties, Labour look the most enthused, but will this be reflected in the result?

  19. Another hour at least in the Forest of Deanpublished at 03:48 British Summer Time 5 July

    Edward Rowe
    Political reporter, BBC Gloucestershire

We’ve just heard from the Returning Officer Andrew Knott.

They’re half way through counting the votes but it looks like the Forest of Dean won’t be declaring the result for another hour at least.

Still very murky on what that result will be.
