The Alliance Party's Naomi Long says it has been "a rollercoaster five years for some of us", after her defeat to Gavin Robinson of the DUP in Belfast East.
"I want to thank those in my party and in my team who canvassed, who campaigned, who knocked doors, who ran a campaign that I think is unrivalled in the history of Northern Ireland politics, who added over 4,000 votes to our previous vote in this constituency.
"And we polled the best vote Alliance has ever polled."
The vice-president of Sinn Fein, Mary Lou McDonald, has tweeted, external this photograph from the Belfast count.
It features the party leader Gerry Adams and the MP Paul Maskey, who has since been re-elected in Belfast West.

The DUP's Gavin Robinson, the new MP for Belfast East, says he is "delighted that the last five long years are over".
"When people were offered the choice as to whether they wished to go forward or back, they chose forward, and they chose forward with somebody they can trust."
"This has been a polarising election, it's been an election that has energised people right across the constituency and you can see that in the votes."
