Latest polls show a narrowing in the Conservative lead ahead of the 8 June election.

Prof John Curtice said: "The Conservatives can no longer be sure of getting the landslide that they want."

He was asked by Sunday Politics presenter Jo Coburn about the changes and he said of Labour supporters: "They seem to have decided that the Labour manifesto was not so bad after all."

And he added: "Labour have managed to draw back in to the fold some of their traditional voters who were disenchanted, together with perhaps, also crucially, some of these younger voters who have never voted before, who have always been a particular target for Jeremy Corbyn."

Labour's election co-ordinator, Ian Lavery, has told Pienaar's Politics that the gap between Labour and the Conservatives is closing in the run-up to the general election.

He also claimed that Labour's manifesto was going down well on the doorstep, saying it has got "the wow factor".

But challenged on how Labour would fund its promises - specifically its pledge to renationalise the water industry - he said: "The real detail is yet to be driven through on how best this would be done, but it's the absolute intention of the Labour Party to re-nationalise these utilities.

"The principle is absolutely credible - it's exactly what people on the doorstep want."
