  14. Corbyn sidesteps Dugdale referendum rowpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 7 June 2017

Jeremy Corbyn has refused to be drawn on the ongoing row between Nicola Sturgeon and his party's Scottish leader as he staged a rally in Glasgow.

Ms Sturgeon told a TV debate on Tuesday that Kezia Dugdale had offered to drop her opposition to an independence referendum after the Brexit vote.

The Scottish Labour leader described the claim as a "categoric lie".

But the Conservatives have claimed it shows Labour cannot be trusted to oppose a referendum.

    The World at One
    BBC Radio 4

Labour's shadow chancellor has said the Institute of Fiscal Studies is not "infallible" and have "got it wrong" in its audit of the party's tax and spend proposals.

John McDonnell told Martha Kearney: "We've evidenced to [the IFS] that we can raise those funds", adding "I've been extremely moderate in this."

He says the party's proposals would put UK "in the middle range of other European countries when it comes to tax levels".

Taking a dig at the Conservatives, he said there were "no figures in the Tory manifesto apart from the page numbers".

  20. McDonnell wishes Abbott well and praises 'wonderful' Lyn Brownpublished at 13:40 British Summer Time 7 June 2017

    The World at One
    BBC Radio 4

    John McDonnell

"Diane's not well and obviously that's a personal matter," shadow chancellor John McDonnell tells the World at One.

He says her temporary replacement, Lyn Brown, is "a wonderful person and she'll do the job very well".

He wishes Ms Abbott "a speedy recovery".

When it's put to him that Ms Brown resigned from Labour's front bench in opposition to Jeremy Corbyn's leadership, Mr McDonnell laughs and says: "That was in the heat of some of the debates within the parliamentary Labour Party."

The shadow chancellor claims that a number of Labour figures who had opposed Mr Corbyn now see him as "the most honest and decent and principled and strong leader that we've had, maybe, in generations".
