  1. Jeremy Corbyn bigger issue than Brexit on doorstep says Alexanderpublished at 00:12 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2019

    Douglas AlexanderImage source, bbc

Douglas Alexander, a former Labour Scottish Secretary, says Jeremy Corbyn has been mentioned on the doorstep infinitely more than Brexit, which is a truth not accepted by his supporters.

"You cannot go into an election with an opposition leader more unpopular than any opposition leader since polling began and expect to win an election, unless you have a flagrant disregard for the general public," Mr Alexander says.

The SNP are being very cautious - practically all the seats in Scotland are marginal.

But one indication will come quite soon - Rutherglen will declare around 1:30/2 GMT.

At the moment that seat has a Labour majority of 268. If that goes to the SNP with a majority of 5,000 that will indicate the exit poll is not far off.

The SNP had 35 seats - they probably have to get into the early 40s to allow Nicola Sturgeon to push her case for a second independence referendum.

Anything more than that and her case for indyref 2 is much strengthened.

Interestingly, Nicola Sturgeon was getting a bit of flak about pressing the independence button during the campaign.

If the exit poll is anywhere near right she has hit the target.

  9. Blackford recalls 2014 referendum promisespublished at 23:55 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2019

    Brian Taylor

Ian Blackford of the SNP recalls that the people of Scotland were told in 2014 that the way to keep Scotland in the EU was to retain the Union. Not, Mr Blackford notes, how things turned out.

  10. Ones to Watch: Ross, Skye and Lochaberpublished at 23:53 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2019

    Ross, Skye and Lochaber stats

Just as the SNP would love to knock off the Lib Dem leader in East Dunbartonshire, the Lib Dems have their eye on the SNP's Westminster leader in Ross, Skye and Lochaber.

This was a safe Lib Dem seat in 2010, with leader Charles Kennedy holding a huge 37.5% majority - which was then washed away in the SNP tide of 2015. They then slipped into third place in 2017, behind the Conservatives.

So this is a seat where tactical voting could be key. Nicola Sturgeon has already accused Labour and the Tories of entering into a "pact" to give the Lib Dems a better chance.

Mr Blackford took more than 40% of the vote in 2017, so any attempt to unseat him would really need a single challenger to emerge from the six other candidates. There's been a lot of talk about tactical voting in the build-up to this election - this could be the constituency where we see if it happens for real.

  11. 'A good night for the SNP'published at 23:52 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2019

    Ian BlackfordImage source, bbc

Ian Blackford, the SNP Westminster leader in the last parliament, says there is no question it will be a good night for the SNP.

Mr Blackford reflects on the fact the exit poll shows the Tories winning in England, leading to a very real threat that Scotland will be taken out of the EU against its will.

In terms of locking Boris Johnson out of Number 10, he argues the SNP were relying on other parties to perform well to achieve that.

  12. Exit poll: 'Health warning'published at 23:52 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2019

    Professor Sir John Curtice
    Polling expert

“We don’t have that many sampling points in Scotland. It happened to be the case that the SNP were doing very well in our sampling points but there are lots of marginal seats in Scotland.

“The SNP figure for Scotland is the bit about the exit poll about which frankly we are least confident, and if it ended up with SNP gains but rather less than that, we to be honest would not necessarily be surprised.”

“The message to take away from this is that we can give you a rough overall picture of Scotland – SNP vote up, and the unionist parties potentially at risk, and that’s about as far as I think anybody should take the exit poll as far as Scotland is concerned.

  13. Blyth Valley is a 'remarkable result'published at 23:45 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2019

    Brian Taylor
    BBC Scotland Political Editor

Back in the middle ages, I was a lobby correspondent at Westminster for a group of papers including the Newcastle Journal. From that distant perspective, that is a remarkable result in Blyth Valley. The Tories have taken a seat which used to be held by ex-miner Ronnie Campbell for Labour. Truly, Brexit is driving outcomes. In England. And perhaps, in a different way, in Scotland.

  14. North East Fife 'looking like a tight contest between the SNP and Lib Dems'published at 23:43 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2019

    Steven GoddenImage source, bbc

BBC Scotland reporter Steven Godden says North East Fife is once again looking like a tight contest between the SNP and the Lib Dems.

This seat was held by the narrowest margin in the entire of the UK in 2017, with the SNP's Stephen Gethins seeing off a Lib Dem challenge by just two votes - after three recounts.

The Lib Dems have thus had their eye on this as a target for some time. They selected their candidate, Wendy Chamberlain, in June 2018.

The SNP and Lib Dems are locked in a fierce battle for the backing of pro-European voters - particularly here, given the above-average Remain vote in the area.

So the result in this squeakiest of seats will answer a lot of questions about this election. Whose vote is going up and whose is going down, how much tactical voting is going on, and who can capitalise best on pro-European votes?

Economist and former SNP MSP Andrew Wilson says the result in Blyth Valley looks like the exit poll could be correct.

He says it looks like the Conservative "alliance" with the Brexit Party has taken thousands of votes away from Labour votes.

The Brexit Party stood down in seats the Tories won in 2017.
