Wow. There are some places that are just Labour through and through, but some of them aren’t anymore.
Rother Valley, Don Valley and Wakefield had been talked about during this election as potential switchers.
But we’re talking about places that have been Labour, in some cases, for 50 plus years. Some still can’t quite believe they are now blue.
In Stocksbridge, a community built on a steelworks, they also decided the Conservatives were the best choice for them this time around.
Even where Labour has retained seats, their majorities have been severely cut.
Conservative candidate Andrew Percy has been re-elected as MP for Brigg and Goole, increasing his majority to 21,941 votes.

Labour has held Leeds North East with Shadow Minister for Peace & Disarmament Fabian Hamilton being re-elected as MP.
Holly Lynch, Labour candidate for Halifax, has been re-elected as MP for Halifax with a 2,569 majority.
Labour’s Emma Hardy holds the seat with 13,384 votes.
Labour's Yvette Cooper has been re-elected as MP for Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford.
She won by 1,276 votes - down from a 2017 majority of 14,499.
Labour's Alex Sobel has been re-elected as MP for Leeds North West with an increased majority of 10,749 - up from 4,224.
Louise Haigh, Labour's candidate for Sheffield Heeley, has been re-elected as MP.

Paul Blomfield has been re-elected as Labour's MP for Sheffield Central.
Conservative candidate Nigel Adams has been re-elected as MP for Selby and Ainsty.
Mr Adams has been the Minister at Digital, Culture, Media and Sport since July 2019.
Labour candidate Rachel Reeves has been re-elected as MP for Leeds West.
Conservative candidate Miriam Cates has been elected as MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge - taking the seat from Labour.
The Conservatives have taken the Rother Valley seat for the first time in it's 101 year history.
Imran Ahmad-Khan has been elected as the Conservative MP for Wakefield, taking the seat from Labour.
Labour's John Healey has been re-elected as MP for Wentworth and Dearne.
Newly elected Conservative MP Nick Fletcher has described his victory in Don Valley as an "historic occasion" after wresting the seat from Labour control for the first time since 1922.

Mr Fletcher became the first Conservative MP for the constituency after securing 19,609 votes, with Labour's Caroline Flint coming second with 15,979.
He said: "It's truly an historic occasion here in Doncaster.
"This seat has been a Labour seat since 1922. This is the most humbling experience and I'm honoured to be given this opportunity."
Labour's Clive Betts has been re-elected as MP for Sheffield South East.
