    Jeff Gregory, 68, from Tonypandy is at the count in Rhondda.

    The former Cwm Colliery miner comes from staunch Labour stock but voted to leave in the EU referendum and says he couldn’t be happier with the predicted Conservative majority in the House of Commons:

    "Why are we suffering here? We've got nothing. It's not about immigration and things like that. People don't feel anyone is representing them."

    It’s a 59.1% voter turnout in Rhondda. Chris Bryant, who has comfortably held the seat since 2001, has just arrived.

    Suggestions are the Conservative Party might come second here - which would be a big change to the 2017 result and a blow for Plaid Cymru.

    A Labour source in Neath, where the Aberavon and Neath votes are being counted has said that the Brexit Party vote has crumbled in the constituency and gone to the Conservatives.

    Meanwhile, Stephen Kinnock and his wife, former Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt, have arrived at the count in Neath.

    Carolyn Harris, deputy leader of Welsh Labour has said it has been a "tough" night for the party.

    “As the first results come through, it’s increasingly clear that tonight is going to be a very tough one for Labour across the UK and here in Wales.

    “I said earlier this week that Welsh Labour were campaigning in tricky times and that has been proven to be the case. I’m hugely proud of every candidate, campaigner and our dedicated team of staff who have worked tirelessly in the most challenging of circumstances.

    “Whatever happens in the hours ahead, I know that the Welsh Labour family will stand together and continue to fight for our communities.”

    Variable turnout figures have been seen so far across Wales.

    While Vale of Glamorgan has seen 72% turnout, Merthyr Tydfil saw 57%.

    While Arfon has seen 69% of the electorate take part, in Cynon Valley the figure was 59%.

    Professor Richard Wyn Jones said: “There’s been a lot of rumours today that we’re going to have a very high turnout."

    "What I think we’re seeing is differential turnout," he told BBC Wales.

    On Jeremy Corbyn’s Brexit position, former Labour First Minister Carwyn Jones told the BBC Wales Election 2019 programme: “On this issue you've got to be on one side or the other. Being neutral just doesn’t work”.

    When asked if Mr Corbyn should continue to be Labour leader if the exit poll is correct, Mr Jones said: "It's very early days yet to think about the future".

    A Labour canvasser in Merthyr Tydfil says he told some traditional Labour voters "to vote for the party, not Corbyn" when they expressed concern over the current leader.

    Equally he claims the Conservatives here had the same problem with Boris Johnson with long time Tory voters.

    Regardless, Labour seem confident of retaining Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney, but perhaps not with the as big a majority as they had last time.

    Turnout in the constituency is expected to be higher than last time too.
