    Labour campaigners said they are worried about Gower after seeing the exit poll. The party's Tonia Antoniazzi was the MP for the constituency in the last parliament

    They say they've had a "very mixed" reaction on the doorstep.

    Lots of traditional Labour voters in areas like Gorseinon, Loughor and Pontarddulais have been telling them they were voting Conservative because of "Corbyn and/or Brexit".

    Reacting to the exit poll, Prof Laura McAllister from Cardiff University told the BBC Wales Election 2019 programme: "What an exit poll is never really able to do is to take into account of very localised factors and there will be some of those going on in some of the seats in Wales".

    Not all voters went to polling stations today, some people posted their ballots in advance.

    Here are some of the postal vote boxes arriving in Haverfordwest earlier tonight. The votes of constituents in Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, and Preseli Pembrokeshire are being counted at the county showground.

    It's the first December general election since 1923.

    Here at the count in Swansea where the votes from the constituencies of Swansea West, Swansea East and Gower are being counted, three candidates will find themselves in a winter wonderland in the early hours.

    On the stroke of 22:00 GMT, Iwan Davies, the returning officer in Llandudno, announced "ready, steady, count!"

    Counting staff have begun sifting through postal votes.

  10. What is the exit poll saying?published at 22:11 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2019

    The exit poll is clearly indicating that the Conservatives are on course to win a majority.

    The party is on course for 368 seats, with 326 needed for a majority and to form a government.

    Labour appear to be taking a hit, with the forecast expecting them to win 191 seats.

    Plaid Cymru are expected to lose one of its four seats and the Liberal Democrats are predicted to win 13.

    Welsh Labour sources have already said that this was always going to be an “extraordinarily challenging election” and called the “political weather incredibly difficult” for the party.

    Now the polls have closed votes are being counted across Wales and the rest of the UK.

    This sports hall in Barry is being used to tot up the totals from around Vale of Glamorgan, which the Conservatives have held since 2010.

    Cyclists at this velodrome in Newport have been using the venue as usual today.

    The exit poll indicates the Conservatives are on track for a majority, but other parties will hope it is wrong and they can stay in pursuit.

    The Tories are set to win a majority of 86 with Labour losing 71 seats, the general election exit poll suggests. The exit poll was carried out by Ipsos MORI for BBC/ITV News/Sky.
