    Huw Merriman has been re-elected as the MP for Bexhill & Battle, with an increased majority.

    The Conservative candidate beat Labour's Christine Bayliss by 26,059 votes, 3,894 more votes than the majority at the 2017 election.

    Martin Saunders of the Liberal Democrats came third and the Green Party's Jonathan Kent came fourth.

    Voter turnout was down by 1 percentage points since the last general election.

    More than 59,000 people, roughly three-quarters of those eligible to vote, went to polling stations across the area on Thursday, in the first December general election since 1923.

    Ben Spencer has been elected MP for Runnymede & Weybridge, increasing the majority of his predecessor, former Chancellor, Philip Hammond.

    The new Conservative MP beat Labour's Robert King by 18,270 votes, 220 more than Mr Hammond’s majority in the 2017 general election.

    Mr Hammond decided not to contest the seat again after being removed from the parliamentary Conservative Party in September after voting against the government over Brexit. He had been MP for Runnymede & Weybridge since 1997.

    Rob O'Carroll of the Liberal Democrats came third and the Green Party's Benjamin Smith came fourth.

    Voter turnout was barely changed, up by just 0.1 percentage points since the last general election.

    More than 53,000 people, 69% of those eligible to vote, went to polling stations across the area on Thursday, in the first December general election since 1923.

    Natalie Elphicke has replaced her husband as MP for Dover, holding the seat for the Conservative Party with an increased majority.

    Her husband, Charlie Elphicke, had the Tory whip removed in July after he was charged with three counts of sexual assault against two women.

    Mr Elphicke denied the charges at Southwark Crown Court in October and was bailed until a trial next year.

    His wife was formally selected as Tory candidate for his seat in November.

    She beat Labour's Charlotte Cornell by 12,278 votes in Thursday's election.
