"You can't buy happiness - but you can vote for it," said Andrew Bridgen after he was named as the winner of the North West Leicestershire constituency.
He was speaking about the area topping a recent happiness poll for the East Midlands.
The MP, who received a majority of 20,400 in the polls, said the constituency was a "very different" seat to the one he was first elected to in 2010.
"It was considered the most deprived seat in Leicestershire," he said.
As well as topping happiness polls he said the area was now recognised for its economic prosperity.

He says if he's successful he will move to the town. He is currently based in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire where he is a borough councillor.
He says "let's unleash Chesterfield's potential" and "Get Brexit done".
He stands by Boris Johnson and says the positive exit poll is because of the Conservative agenda to invest in police, NHS and schools.
Asked whether he feels confident about gaining the seat tonight, he replied: "It's very tight and there's still a lot of votes to count".
