As Hillary Clinton accepts the nomination, making history as the first female presidential candidate, she will seek to assure voters that she can unify the country by raising wages and protecting them against foreign terrorists.

Here are some of the statements that she's expected to make:

    • "America is once again at a moment of reckoning. Powerful forces are threatening to pull us apart...We have to decide whether we’re going to work together so we can all rise together."
    • "My primary mission as president will be to create more opportunity and more good jobs with rising wages right here in the United States. From my first day in office to my last."
    • "Every generation of Americans has come together to make our country freer, fairer, and stronger.  None of us can do it alone.  That's why we are stronger together."

Singer Carole King took the stage to perform "You've Got a Friend" and managed to ad-lib a line in a nod to party unity.

“Hillary's got so many friends, and Bernie too, all of us together,” she sang.

  3. Debbie Wasserman Schultz speaks for first time since resignationpublished at 00:38 British Summer Time 29 July 2016

Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the former Democratic National Committee chairwoman, who resigned on the eve of the convention in Philadelphia, has made her first public remarks, saying "sometimes you just have to take one for the team".

"And that's OK, it's OK," she added with a smile while speaking to a reception hosted by the National Jewish Democratic Council in Philadelphia.

The Florida congresswoman resigned after hacked emails revealed an improper bias for Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders during their primary campaigns.

  4. Sanders delegates plan 'enough is enough' protestpublished at 00:32 British Summer Time 29 July 2016

Hundreds of Bernie Sanders supporters on this final night of the Democratic National Convention have streamed into the arena clad in neon-yellow T-shirts with a quote from the man who has led their “revolution" for more than a year.

    “Enough is enough.”

Nebraska delegate Shannon Cameron says the message is simple.

“We’re going to hold Hillary Clinton’s feet to the fire,” she explains.

California delegate Robert Shearer says Sanders delegates, who have been meeting privately every day during the convention, want to show that Democratic claims of party unity are a “facade”.

The party is divided, he continues, “and the problem doesn’t get better unless we talk about it”.

Sanders supporters are coy about whether there are any disruptions planned for when Hillary Clinton takes the stage to accept her party’s nomination in a few hours.

Some could walk out, Shearer says, or offer a silent protest, as they did during vice-presidential nominee Tim Kaine’s speech on Wednesday. Others will watch “respectfully”.

On Monday, when the Sanders delegates were booing the mere mention of Mrs Clinton, the protests were centred on the Californians in one corner of the hall. Now, Shawnee Badger - one of the leaders of the loudest and most visible protest factions - has a message for the crowd during Mrs Clinton’s speech.

“Watch the California delegation,” she says.

However, not all Sanders supporters are protesting. Some have decided to join the Hillary camp.

In response to questions that have recently arisen about the New York businessman's relationship with the Russian president, Donald Trump said he has never met Vladimir Putin.

"He said one nice thing about me. He said I'm a genius. I said thank you very much to the newspaper and that was the end of it. I never met Putin," the Republican candidate said this week.

However, Mr Trump said at a National Press Club event in 2014 that he spoke "directly and indirectly with President Putin who could not have been nicer".

He had also claimed to have met Mr Putin when they were both featured on an episode of CBS's 60 Minutes, however the interviewer later explains that after interviewing Mr Trump in the US he then travelled to Russia to interview Mr Putin there, meaning the two men never had an opportunity to meet in the TV studio.

  8. Three things to look out for tonightpublished at 00:10 British Summer Time 29 July 2016

Before the balloons drop on the final night of the Democratic convention, the BBC looks at three things to watch for when Hillary Clinton makes history as the first female to accept a presidential nomination in the US.

Chelsea: 'This is who my mother is'

The former -and possibly future- first daughter will make a case for why her mother deserves to take her father's old job.

Chelsea Clinton has long campaigned for her mother, but will step into the spotlight to deliver one of her biggest speeches yet.

Hillary trying to make herself more likeable

All eyes are on Mrs Clinton as she tries to convince voters that she is more trustworthy than Republican rival Donald Trump.

After facing low likeability and approval ratings and a campaign marred by controversy, Mrs Clinton is tasked with re-introducing herself as a relatable and honest character.

In a few hours, the convention centre will be emptied out

We’re almost at the end of a long two weeks in American politics.

Convention season is when America’s two main political parties rubber stamp their candidates for president. It’s also the time they unite behind them, after months of scrapping over who they should pick, during primary season.

Conventions are stage managed, scripted events, but there’s always enough unpredictability to add some excitement to the hours and hours of political theatre. Last week, no-one expected there’d be such a striking similarity between Melania Trump’s speech and one made by Michelle Obama, more than a decade earlier.

And the fractious nature of the primary season reared its head again, when Ted Cruz failed to endorse Donald Trump. This week’s Democratic convention began with a similar schism, as some Bernie Sanders supporters took to the streets to protest, refusing to back Hillary Clinton at any cost. Seven days after Donald Trump took centre stage in Cleveland, it’s now Hillary Clinton’s turn.

Once the balloons have been released, the signs will come down, and the hundreds of journalists and delegates will pack up and go home. But this isn’t the end - it’s only the start of the 2016 election campaign.

As Hillary Clinton prepares to take the stage and accept her party's nomination, she still struggles to gain traction among certain key groups of voters.

She'll be looking to draw support from young Democrats, many of whom favoured her opponent, Senator Bernie Sanders, during the primary. She'll also be seeking support from white men without a college degree, a group that Trump's polling indicates that he has a clear advantage over.

Here are some of the numbers that campaign staff will be trying to affect tonight:
