In a spirit of equality, many US publications are treating former President Bill Clinton like the typical political spouse - by sizing up his fashion choices.

The Los Angeles Times, external: "Since there’s a time-honoured tradition of giving the potential leader of the free world’s arm candy a wardrobe once-over after such events, let’s dive right in. Bill Clinton, wait for it, wore a navy blue suit."

The Hollywood Reporter, external: "It’s a far humbler fashion statement that has drawn attention for Bill Clinton, at least on social media - a friendship bracelet. It was a gift from Los Ninos del Vallenato, a Colombian band that performed at the White House during his presidency... The head of the group was later kidnapped and murdered by Marxist rebels. Clinton wears the string bracelet to show solidarity with the Colombian people."

Mic, external: "What Bill Clinton's style shows is that he knows his role right now, and it's to blend into the background when necessary, but come out swinging when necessary too."

Quartz, external: "He may lack current First Lady Michelle Obama’s upper arm strength, but he makes up for it with a nice head of hair."

While delivering her speech at the Democratic National Convention, First Lady Michelle Obama pointed out that she and her family "wake up in a house built by slaves". Mrs Obama was noting the progress race relations have made in the US now that the country - founded when African Americans were slaves - has elected a black president twice. But her comments - although historically accurate - did not sit well with some conservatives.

Conservative chat show host Bill O'Reilly pushed back saying the White House slaves were “well fed and had decent lodgings provided by the government”. His comment quickly drew a firestorm of criticism online. Some saw his comments as a defence of slavery.

This isn't the first time Donald Trump has asked hackers to work on his behalf. In September 2014, he asked hackers to find President Barack Obama's university records in the hope of proving Mr Obama was not born in the US.

The president was born in Hawaii.

Mr Trump rose to political prominence by insisting that Mr Obama was not a natural born citizen of the US. These assertions have been repeatedly discredited and many believe the "birther" movement that Mr Trump led was created to de-legitimise the first black president of the US.
