  1. 'A sickening event in the history of the US' - New Yorker editorpublished at 08:41 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2016

The New Yorker, one of America's most prestigious magazines, has been clear throughout the campaign about its distaste for Donald Trump, but even with that in mind this op-ed by editor David Remnick is extraordinary.

    Quote Message

The election of Donald Trump to the Presidency is nothing less than a tragedy for the American republic, a tragedy for the Constitution, and a triumph for the forces, at home and abroad, of nativism, authoritarianism, misogyny, and racism. Trump’s shocking victory, his ascension to the Presidency, is a sickening event in the history of the United States and liberal democracy. On January 20, 2017, we will bid farewell to the first African-American President—a man of integrity, dignity, and generous spirit—and witness the inauguration of a con who did little to spurn endorsement by forces of xenophobia and white supremacy. It is impossible to react to this moment with anything less than revulsion and profound anxiety.

  6. 'He’s not my president'published at 08:33 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2016

There are early indications online about just how difficult it will be for Donald Trump to govern this deeply divided country.

They’re using hastags such as #StillWithHer, external and #HesNotMyPresident, external to express their rejection of the result. It appears some will never accept a President Trump.
